Starting at the tail end of 2004 I started taking pics of new (at the time only Region 2 Japan) DVDs and other items I picked up each month. I\'ve included things like figures, magazines, art books, laserdiscs, CD\'s, manga and other items. Recently I have also been including my new Region 1 DVD and Blu-ray items as well. Enjoy!!
This is a visual history of my DVD (and other media such as Laserdiscs, CD\'s and VHS) collection, though not from the very beginning. This started around just under 1000 discs. Some items in the older pictures have since been sold off in order to make room for newer arrivals on in the cases of upgraded releases. Enjoy!!
I decided that I would try something new I would start a new section called the “Item of the Monthâ€. The concept is that each month I’ll highlight one item (or a set in the case of say a DVD box set or things of that nature) from my collection. This could be something recent or from the way back machine and could include VHS, DVD, BD, and LD, as well as manga and other print items. Enjoy!!
Even now, with some titles coming out first in either subtitled-only or DVD-only formats and then later released in different or expanded formats, people have to decide whether or not to re-purchase the newer release ………….. or in other terms – to Double Dip. Those who have been collecting for some time may have seen this choice come and go several times over the years. Here are some examples of the Double Dip.
The Special Sets section includes galleries for Figures, Pillows and Covers, Ikki Tousen, VHS and Laserdisc players as well as the vague and nebulous Special and Misc sections.
Pictures and other scans from various conventions including Anime Los Angeles and Anime Expo.
Do you ever consider capping and preserving some of these things you have, especially the titles not available beyond VHS and LD?
I no longer have a VHS or LD player (and sadly with kids now, and limited living space, I have no ability on collecting a lot of obsolete formats all over again 😐 ) , but I would love to be able to have copies of things like Lily C.A.T., and copies of the out of print dubs like Silent Möbius: The Motion Picture 1’s Streamline dub to add to my R1 Bandai DVD.
Please let me know if you ever feel inclined to help make some custom discs with VHS/ LD captures of these lost gems.
